Coastal Headlands Weed Control
The Coastal Headlands Weed Control Project was a continuation of works to target Chrysanthemoides monilifera (Boneseed) along costal headlands from Palm Beach to Long Reef
Project Background
Many of the costal headland sites comprise of coastal heath with some containing small pockets of Littoral Rainforest, an Endangered Ecological Community. The infestations of Boneseed throughout the sites varied from dense monocultures, smaller pockets, to isolated individual plants.
Due to the rugged geomorphology of the cliffs Toolijooa’s IRATA Certified Rope Access Technicians were called upon to ensure safe access. Our Rope Access Technicians are highly experienced Bush Regenerators with a wealth of knowledge when it comes to effective, best-practice environmental restoration.
Project Objectives
Strategically target Boneseed through coordinated weed control
Minimise erosion along cliff edges
Protect and restore areas of Coastal Heath, Sandstone Woodland and Littoral Rainforest
Promote natural regeneration and improve habitat for native fauna
Map and report on identified and treated Boneseed infestations
Accomplishments
The challenging works were undertaken with utmost safety and professionalism whilst ensuring best-practice environmental restoration efforts along the headlands.
Strategic use of best-practice weed control techniques successful in reducing target species at all sites
Complete removal of Boneseed at a number of sites
Overcame access challenges by employing advanced rope access skills
Environmentally sensitive techniques employed to avoid impact on non-target species
